Opel-Olympia

The Opel Olympia, also known as the Opel Rekord, is a classic German car manufactured by the Opel division of General Motors. It was first introduced in 1935 and was produced until 1953. The Opel Olympia was the first mass-produced car to feature a unitized body and chassis, as well as an independent front suspension. It was also the first car to feature a modern, fuel-injected engine.

The Opel Olympia was designed by engineer Hans Mersheimer and was based on the earlier Opel Super Six. It was powered by a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder, overhead-valve engine that produced 34 horsepower. The engine was mated to a three-speed manual transmission. The Olympia had a wheelbase of 2,640 mm (103.5 inches) and a length of 4,550 mm (179.1 inches). The car had a top speed of 80 mph and could reach 60 mph in just 16 seconds.

The Olympia was initially offered in two body styles: a two-door sedan and a two-door cabriolet. The cabriolet was available in both a two-seat and four-seat configuration. The two-seat version was called the “Coupe” and the four-seat version was called the “Cabriolet”. The Olympia was also available with a variety of trim levels and options, including a radio, fog lights, and chrome trim.

The Olympia was well-received by the public and was a popular choice for both private and commercial use. It was known for its reliability and economy and was often used as a taxi or delivery vehicle. The car was also popular with the military, who used it for reconnaissance and light transport duties.

The Olympia was also successful in the racing world. It was used in the first German Grand Prix in 1935 and was the first German car to win an international race, the 1937 Monte Carlo Rally. The Olympia also won the European Touring Car Championship in 1951 and 1952.

The Opel Olympia was a popular car in its day and is still highly sought after by collectors today. It is a classic example of German engineering and design and is a reminder of a bygone era. The Olympia is a car that will always be remembered and admired.
